I live in Tampa, FL and have been here since I was 3 years old. I graduated from the University of South Florida and have worked primarily in the Insurance and Banking field. Currently, I work for a national Medicare/ Medicaid provider.
Some of my earliest Soap Opera memories are watching “As the World Turns” with my mom (Mommy’s favorite here!) and with my mom and my maternal grandmother whenever we would be together (us visiting them or them visiting us). Then, the late 70’s hit and I got sweeped into the Luke and Laura hysteria. I was a bigger fan of Scotty Baldwin and the “international intrigue” storylines, I always found unbelievable. For those that are too young to remember, this was an indescribable time for soap operas. Probably the pinnacle.
As I started college, I remember watching “All My Children” and “General Hospital” at the TV room in the University Center. It was me and a bunch of ladies. Looking back, pretty hilarious! As I graduated, I tried video tapping, but as most of us know. Those early VCRs were unreliable, at best. Soon I just got frustrated and stopped watching all together.
Got married, had 2 children, and just continued to work through the 90s. In 2000, my wife and I separated and I began a period of “self discovery”. I became drawn to watching YouTube videos of “gay storylines” on several soaps. I even followed a subtitled Dutch soap through the entire run of one of their major gay storylines. And that is how I found Days and eventually began DVRing each day. I have been watching daily for about a year and a half. Sometimes, I hit the Wikipedia to get some of the history, but I am enjoying most of the storylines.
I listen to podcast my entire work day and found Days Drama about 4 months ago and have enjoyed being part of a larger group of fans.
Nice to meet all the people here,
